Information and Requirements
The Pride Entrepreneur Education Program (PEEP) exists to help eliminate future socio-economic disparities in the African American community by promoting education, financial literacy, the attainment of marketable skills and entrepreneurship among youth ages 15 to 25.
The PEEP Luncheon Essay Contest exists to encourage entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation among African American high school students.
Who May Enter

- The PEEP Luncheon Essay Contest is open to African American high school seniors who have been personally invited to attend the 2012 PEEP Luncheon on February 9, 2012.
- Applicants must graduate in June 2012 and be planning to attend an accredited university, community college or recognized trade or technical school in the fall of 2012.
The Essay
- Topic: What is entrepreneurship and how has it affected our country and your community? How can thinking like an entrepreneur benefit you whether you plan to own your own business or work for someone else? (Give examples, be specific and include your own personal plans.)
- Applicants must write an original essay with no guidance from others.
- Each essay must reflect the applicant’s own research, writing and original thinking.
- Essays should be approximately 500 words (approximately two double-spaced, typed pages.
- Essays must be double-spaced and typed in Times New Roman, 12 point font.
- Applicants must use proper grammar and spelling.
- If applicants cite external references such as quotes or statistics, they must be cited using MLA style documentation.
- Please type your name and the name of your school on separate lines in the upper left-hand corner of each page.
- Create a header that numbers pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner of each page.
Award
- The PEEP Luncheon Essay Contest winner will be awarded a scholarship between the amounts of $500 and $1,000.
- Scholarship funds will be awarded directly to the recipient’s school in September 2012 after acceptance and attendance is verified.
- The winning essay will be selected by a panel of judges chosen by PEEP staff.
- The winning essay will adhere to the topic and be informative, persuasive, logically organized and free from grammatical and spelling errors.
How to Submit Your Essay
- Applicants may submit essays online at www.peepcharlotte.org .
- Essays must be submitted no later than January 16, 2012. No extra points will be awarded for early submission.
- Essays must be submitted as a word document or PDF file that is under 1.0 MB in size.
- Essays submitted in a file containing corrupted data which cannot be opened will be disqualified.
